The Memorial was constructed with money donated by Canadian Ukrainians.
“For almost 10 years, people have been collecting money to erect this Memorial,” said the Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto, Andrey Veselovsky. “In total, the project fundraised $1,5 millions Canadian dollars.” According to him, this budget was needed to buy a land, which is subject to 100-year land lease, and to construct the monument.
